As a special educator, mother of a Northshore student, and community member, I am running for school board to enact positive change for each child in the Northshore School District. My time on the board will be guided by putting students’ needs first.

In my role as an educator, I collaborate with families and other professionals daily to support children with visual impairments under three.  As a member of the board, I will embrace community voices and actively listen to concerns. Together we will build the best path forward for Northshore Schools.

My priorities are fully funding special education, paying teachers and staff competitive wages, and equitable access to programs for children across the district.  I ask for your vote and your support to make the next four years meaningful to our students.

Priorities

  1. Fully funding Special Education

  2. Equitable access to programs across the district

  3. Paying teachers and staff livable wages

Lily my daughter, is a 2nd grader and loves riding bikes, my husband Sean is an aeronautical engineer and builds things for fun, my son Oliver will enter Kindergarten next year and has decided he is a shark scientist.

About

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, I am a product of my local public schools. I grew up with a public school teacher and benefitted from having a teacher at home. Due in part to an unidentified learning disability my parents made the choice to send me to a private high school where I would get the structure and attention I needed to succeed.

I got my Bachelor’s in Human Services from Western Washington University. After graduating I took a position as a pre-k teacher at a community preschool. While there I worked with the preschool to start a support program designed specifically around including kids with ASD.

After spending a couple years teaching and supporting kids with higher and more specialized support needs, I decided to go back to school and get my Master of Education in Special Education. Specifically focusing on Early Childhood Special Education. While in school I learned about birth - 3 programs and what special education can look like for infants and toddlers. I graduated from the University of Washington with my Master’s and worked in the preschool at the University, the Experimental Education Unit Infant and Toddler program, which is part of the Haring Center.

In 2014 I started work at Kindering as a Special Educator. Kindering is the largest neurodevelopmental center in the Northwest and serves children birth to three in early supports all along the east side of Lake Washington. I started by teaching a co-op class and doing home visits to support toddlers and their families around social emotional and play skills. While there I found a special place in my heart for kids who are impacted in multiple areas by their disabilities. This eventually led to me getting an additional graduate certificate as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments from Stephen F. Austin State University.

I am now a full time teacher of children with visual impairments and I serve all children at Kindering who have a diagnosed or suspected visual impairment. My goal as a teacher are to support learning in all areas that are impacted or affected by a child’s vision.

I look forward to supporting all children in Northshore Schools to access learning in the best and most supportive way possible.
